Exploring New Zealand’s Hooker Valley Track

New Zealand has some pretty epic hikes. One of my all time favorites is the HookerValley  track in Mt Cook NP.

The hike begins at the White Horse Hill Campground . This is a great campground, popular and full of fellow travelers. The drive to the campground itself is epic as you drive along the shores of the glistening teal blue Lake Pukaki.

Arrive in the afternoon, set up camp and do a little exploring. The views will blow your mind. Plan to wake up at dawn and head out on the trail. Getting up early assures you that you will have the trail all to yourself. Sunrise in the valley is amazing!

The hike is relatively easy, non technical and takes a couple hours to reach Hooker Lake at the base of Mt Cook’s massive glacier. If you were up early, you will have the entire landscape all to yourself. A truly wonderful experience!
